Deploying paediatric formulations: a new primaquine project following on from DPP and IMPRIMA, supported by GH EDCTP3
Our funder GH EDCTP3, which works for global health, has welcomed the extension of the primaquine work carried out with financial support from its programme. The ASAQ-PAC project (No. 101248882, Advancing child-friendly artesunate-amodiaquine taste mask coated micro pellets to combat the threat of artemisinin resistant malaria in Africa) builds on the DPP project and complements the IMPRIMA project. It continues the fight against malaria with a focus on children.
ASAQ-PAC is coordinated by our partner, the University of Oxford / Mahidol University (MORU), with support from ClinSearch, which is also involved in DPP and IMPRIMA. The project comes out of new partnerships: with Kamuzu University of Health Sciences in Malawi for scientific leadership and clinical operations, and with Fluid Pharma and the University of Hertfordshire for pharmaceutical manufacturing. ASAQ-PAC started in June 2026. It aims to evaluate a new paediatric formulation of the artemisinin-based combination therapy (ACT) artesunate-amodiaquine in granule form. The granules will be given with or without a single low dose of primaquine. The primaquine will come as paediatric tablets, using the dosage forms developed in the DPP project and given in the related DPP and IMPRIMA clinical studies.
Each project carries forward the same vision and the same actions for global health and the fight against malaria, especially for children.
