It was with great joy that Rianasoambolanoro Rakotosaona, Director of the Centre National d’Application de Recherches Pharmaceutiques (CNARP), together with Arsène Ratsimbasoa, a medical epidemiologist with a PhD in epidemiology and an expert in clinical research on malaria, and Jackie Andriarison, Head of Communications at CNARP, told the consortium members gathered in Leiden on 13 March 2026 the news: the EDCTP Association had announced that Madagascar was its newest member country. This brings the total number of African member countries to 33.
The General Assembly of the EDCTP Association officially approved Madagascar’s membership on 10 March 2026, which strengthens regional collaboration in global health research.
As a new member, Madagascar gains a major opportunity to build its national capacity in clinical research and clinical trials, and to consolidate its strengths in health and research. Madagascar is building strategic partnerships with other members of the Association, as in the IMPRIMA project with Burkina Faso and Burundi, which also recently joined EDCTP. Through these partnerships, it is becoming a key player in developing innovative solutions to fight infectious diseases across Africa.
